1 out of 5 stars An Exercise in Frustration   September 2, 2010
Eric J. Beheim (Descanso,, Ca United States)
I bought this device with the intention of using it with my Dell Inspron B130 laptop. When my computer would not read the disc with the drivers, I took everything to the computer techs at the local Staples Office Supply store. They also had problems with the drivers and ended up downloading them from M-Audio. Even after the drivers were loaded, the techs were not able to get my computer to recognize the device. In fact, when they plugged the device in, it caused my computer to shut down. Needless to say, I returned it for a refund.

4 out of 5 stars A bit dated, but totally solid.   January 16, 2010

The MobilePre has been around for a while now - note that the photo shown here is outdated, the unit is now black and grey rather than blue/white. While this unit may not be the absolute latest and greatest audio interface on the market it has pretty solid support and history. I got mine about 8 months ago for ~$60 (i think there might have been a pricing mistake!).

Works well with Windows 7 32 and 64 bit OS. My only minor gripe is that the minimum number of samples is 128, which makes for roughly a 7 ms total latency. The built-in soundcard on my HP laptop works down to 64 samples (32 using Jack in Linux), BUT cannot touch the sound of the MobilePre. Note - using Reaper permits using a WDM Kernel Streaming driver instead of ASIO, which allows a little better latency. Still, sound travels roughly 1 foot each millisecond, so the total latency is like have an amp about 7 feet away, which is barely noticable.

Solidly built, great for guitar. The preamp section when using a dynamic mic is a bit noisy though.

Would recommend to a friend.

5 out of 5 stars I have enjoyed this for years.   January 12, 2010

I have used one of these for a couple of years. Paired with a matched set of R0DE NT-2s, and using goldwave recording software it is awesome. I have made hundreds of recordings of everything from crickets, voice reading, live bands, and who knows what else. It is absolutely perfect for recording band practice and gigs, and cheap-o demos.

I think this is the best $100 you can spend for remote recording (and good microphones.)

I'm wondering now if I can get another one and record four tracks (surround) simultaneously.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Love It!!!   December 3, 2009

This is probably one of the best pieces of studio equipment anybody can have, especially if you are seeking mobility with your equipment. I have used this for both music and podcast production and it is solid. It is light and compact. I was able to fit this piece of equipment along with a mic, the cord and my 13" macbook pro in a standard size laptop backpack. Not heavy or bulky at all. Works great in any production situation. Looking for production on the go, this is your best bet. Also Amazon saves you about $50 versus going to Guitar Center.

No supported by Windows XP Media Center. I finally found this on the manufacturer web page. Could be nice if the warning is on Amazon so, you don't waste time ordering and returning
